Not sure if there ever been a video that would have a classic New York spot like the Sombrero edited almost back to back with LNB in Riga. Watching it as a local, you’d think it is some kind of SkateTube compilation video, but it is real. Wasteman by Carlo Campos, the filmer of the Genius crew, mixed some Riga with more seen spots as if it all a part of one whole. We had a mini chat with Carlo about his experience around here. For more, check the Jenkem interview with Carlo too, and enjoy the vid. Have a shot every time a Latvian’s on screen. Peace.
Can you tell a bit about Genius? What is that?
Genius is just my friends and I skateboarding, making clothes, and throwing parties once in a while.
To film for Wasteman you went on a trip which included Latvia and Lithuania, right? Tell how did you end up in these countries?
Yes! We originally flew into Stockholm, Sweden, had a pop-up over there with the Eva shop then we went straight to Riga. After that we went to Vilnius, Athens, and London.
How’d you meet all the Latvians?
So our friend Sebastian @whazg00di from Stockholm is good friends with Kris, Edijs and Neof. We were insta buddies before, but it was my first time meeting the three on this trip and I absolutely love them. They are the definition of best dudes on and off the board. Had never been to Riga nor Vilnius so I was excited and super down to go when we were planning the trip. Džons is the best drink ever.
If you had to describe Latvia in three words, what words those would be?
Super frigging awesome!
Did you eat any local food?
Ate a shit ton of Hesburger! Not too shabby
Was there any spot in Latvia you’d want to come back to?
Would love to come back to the one Kris did front rock to ollie off the gap. All the other guys skated the pad. I think it was a museum? Insanely fun spot with insane variety.
Did you go on Tinder dates in Latvia?
Nooo I had absolutely no luck on Hinge and Tinder. It was tragic. Met some cool people at bars though.
